Training: Dr. Otto J. Placik began his medical career at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Illinois, where he was accepted into the Honors program in Medical Education (HPME) after graduating from High School. In the course of his third year in medical school, he received the Beatrice Tucker Award for outstanding performance in the Obstetrics and Gynecology rotation. After earning his medical degree from Northwestern University, Dr. Placik completed his residencies in General and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Northwestern University as well.

Dr. Placik completed a Fellowship in the aesthetic reconstruction of complex nasal and facial deformities at St. Joseph Hospital in Chicago, Illinois and an additional Fellowship in Microvascular and Hand Surgery at Davies Medical Center, an affiliate of the University of California, San Francisco.

He maintains a teaching position at Northwestern University and has been recognized with over 10 years of continuous service on the faculty as an Assistant Professor of Surgery (Clinical staff) in the Department of Surgery, Division of Plastic Surgery. In this role, he has participated in the training of plastic surgery residents with a focus on Aesthetic Vulvo-Vaginal Surgery.

Dr. Placik completed a Fellowship in the aesthetic reconstruction of complex nasal and facial deformities at St. Joseph Hospital in Chicago, Illinois and an additional Fellowship in Microvascular and Hand Surgery at Davies Medical Center, an affiliate of the University of California, San Francisco.

Dr. Placik is the contributing expert for the book “Be Your Best” A Comprehensive Guide to Aesthetic Plastic Surgery; he has also been published in The Journal of Sexual Medicine (Goodman, Michael P., Placik, Otto J. et al. “A large multicenter outcome study of female genital plastic surgery.” The journal of sexual medicine 7.4pt1 (2010): 1565-1577) as a contributing physician as part of a multi-center national study on female genital plastic surgery. Dr. Placik was also lead author of a recent article accepted by the prestigious Aesthetic Surgery Journal discussing the increasingly popular cultural trend of female genital plastic surgery (Placik, Otto J., and John P. Arkins. “Plastic Surgery Trends Parallel Playboy Magazine: The Pudenda Preoccupation.” Aesthetic Surgery Journal 34.7 (2014): 1083-1090). He is actively involved in ongoing research to study the safety and effectiveness and outcomes of female genital plastic surgery.

Due to Dr. Placik’s experience, he has also been invited as a co-author of several chapters in texts focusing on Aesthetic Vulvo-Vaginal Surgery to be published in 2015 and 2017.

Dr. Placik has been featured in numerous radio and television venues with appearances on CBS, talk radio 820, The Chicago Tribune and Chicago Sun Times as well as speaks at many different conferences throughout the Unites States on the topics of cosmetic surgery and specifically on the topic of female genital surgery. He in the only plastic surgeon to have been invited to speak as part of an international panel of experts on the subject of female genital surgery at the Annual Congress on Vaginal Surgery. Due to the popularity of his lectures, he was invited back to speak for 5 consecutive years.

Dr. Placik has performed well over 700 genital surgeries with patient satisfaction cited at 95%, he currently performs the largest volume of female genital cosmetic surgeries in the Midwest.

In recognition of his outstanding accomplishments, Dr. Placik has received many awards and has been recognized in “Guide to America’s Top Surgeons”, “The Consumer’s Guide to Top Doctors”, and “Vitals Compassionate Doctor Award”

Dr. Placik is a member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, American Society of Plastic Surgeons, as well as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and Fellow of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the American Academy of Cosmetic Plastic Surgeons, as well as the American Academy of Cosmetic Gynecologists.
